Maintenance Technician Resume Example

Before: “Responsible for repairing machines and doing PMs.” After: “Diagnosed recurring conveyor-drive failures, replaced failing VFD cooling components, and completed 96% of scheduled preventive maintenance work orders across a 42-line packaging area.” The second line gives a Maintenance Technician recruiter what the first hides: the asset, the failure, the repair, and the operating impact. Your resume is not a list of tasks from a maintenance job description.

The common problem is a resume packed with broad claims—“mechanical and electrical repairs,” “troubleshooting,” “team player”—with no indication of what equipment you maintained or how independently you worked. It happens because technicians are trained to restore production, not narrate the work afterward. Fix it by naming the systems: conveyors, motors, pumps, pneumatic circuits, hydraulic presses, PLC-controlled equipment, VFDs, gearboxes, boilers, or packaging machinery. Pair those terms with evidence such as PM completion rate, downtime avoided, mean time to repair, work-order volume, scrap reduction, or uptime. Do not claim “performed preventive maintenance”; state the PM routes, assets, and results.

A second error is treating safety and documentation as background details. In manufacturing, lockout/tagout, OSHA procedures, electrical troubleshooting, schematic reading, CMMS documentation, and root cause analysis are proof that you can work without creating a production or injury problem. In 2026, ATS searches increasingly reward newer plant-language such as mobile CMMS, digital work orders, IIoT-connected condition monitoring, vibration analysis, ultrasound inspection, VFD diagnostics, servo systems, and OEE support—when you have actually used them. The counterintuitive truth: a narrower, equipment-specific resume beats a broad “I can fix anything” resume. Hiring managers trust a technician who clearly owns a defined asset base more than one who claims mastery of every machine in the plant.
