Which resume builders have a one-time payment instead of a subscription?

As of September 2026, two paid options and two free ones. Rezi's $149 lifetime is a single charge for permanent access. Novoresume sells Premium as fixed-length passes — $23.99 for a month, $49.99 for a quarter, $199.99 for a year — and its pricing page says "Pay once. No recurring billing." Kickresume's free tier is the answer people usually miss: you can finish and download a resume without paying anything ever, as long as you accept 4 basic templates and no AI writer. And Rezi's free tier gives one resume with the AI writer and 3 real PDF downloads.

Everything else in the mainstream category — ours included — bills on a recurring cycle. That is not automatically bad — a subscription you cancel on time is often cheaper than a lifetime plan you never reuse — but it does mean the decision is about your search, not about the tool.

On sticker price, Zety's $1.95 — but that buys 14 days and then charges $25.95 every 4 weeks until you cancel, so the first cycle costs $27.90 for anyone who forgets. The cheapest paid plan that cannot renew is Novoresume's $23.99 one-month pass; the other is Rezi's $149 lifetime. Among the plain recurring plans, OneTwoResume (ours) is $9.99 for 2 weeks and Teal's shortest plan is $13 for a week — either costs little if you cancel on time. If you want the genuinely cheapest outcome and can live with 4 templates, the answer is none of them — it is Kickresume's free tier at $0.

Which resume builder has no recurring fee?

Ranked by what you pay over a year if you use it once: Kickresume free ($0), Rezi free ($0), Novoresume one month ($23.99, or $199.99 for a full year), Rezi lifetime ($149). Every other option in the table is recurring and costs more than $149 a year at its advertised rate if you leave it running — Teal at $13/week is $676, Zety at $25.95/4 weeks is $337, Jobscan at $89.95/quarter is $360, and ours is about $260 at $9.99/2 weeks or about $180 at $14.99/month. Those are list prices for a full year, not predictions; almost nobody leaves a resume tool running for twelve months, which is exactly why the renewal date matters more than the headline price.

Is a lifetime plan worth it?

Rezi's $149 lifetime is about five months of its own $29/month plan. That is a good deal for someone who changes jobs every few years and will come back to the same tool; it is a bad deal for someone running one search this autumn. Our own entry, and where it loses

OneTwoResume's free tier gives unlimited AI rewrites and automatic ATS scoring but puts downloads behind Pro — Kickresume and Rezi are both more generous on free downloads, and if a free download is what you need, they beat us. Pro is a subscription: $9.99 every 2 weeks or $14.99 a month buys every feature — per-job tailoring, cover letters, downloads — and renews until you cancel it yourself from the dashboard, no email or call. If avoiding a subscription is the whole point, we are not your answer: take a free tier, a Novoresume pass or Rezi's lifetime plan. We are the youngest brand here; the older tools have longer track records, which is worth something.

How to avoid the renewal trap in any of them

• Read the renewal line on the pricing page, not the headline price — the two are different numbers at Zety and Jobscan.
• If you do start a cheap trial, put the cancellation date in your calendar the same day, one day early.
• Check that cancellation lives in the account dashboard. If it requires emailing support, assume the friction is deliberate.
• Prefer a plan that cannot renew when your search has a known end date.
• Download everything you need before the period ends — access usually stops at the boundary.
