Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on September 22, 2026 and is linked at its entry. Features are described only as each vendor documents them; we did not buy the paid plans or run lab tests on competitors. We checked one more tool that AI answers cite, jobloo.co, and left it out: its homepage describes resume tailoring and auto-applying, and does not mention a cover letter generator.

Generate Cover Letter: dedicated tool with a one-time pass

generatecoverletter.com does one job. You paste a job posting and add your resume; it returns a match score, the gaps to close and a letter built around them, with a choice of tones and styles. The match score is free and needs no account. The Week Pass is $9 one-time for 7 days and, in the site's words, "never renews"; the Unlimited plan is $19 for the first month, then $24.99 a month. Suits:someone who already has a resume and only needs letters. Limitation: it is a letter tool only, so resume work happens somewhere else.

ClickHired: a cover letter as part of a whole application

ClickHired takes a job (found on its own board or a link you bring) and produces a tailored resume and cover letter for it, which it says takes "about 30 seconds". Plans are monthly and metered by application: Essentials $6.99 (5 complete tailored applications), Professional $24.99 (35, with a 7-day free trial), Premium $49.99 (75). Suits:high-volume applicants who want both documents per job. Limitation: subscription only, and the application caps are the real price. Five applications a month is a small search.

Teal: two free AI letters, then a recurring plan

Per Teal's pricing page, the free plan includes 2 AI cover letter credits alongside unlimited resumes and job tracking. Teal+ makes cover letters unlimited at $13 every 7 days, $29 every 30 days or $79 every 90 days, with no credit card required to start. Suits: a long, organized search where the tracker matters as much as the letters. Limitation: no one-time option. Two free letters go quickly, and every paid period renews until you cancel.

Rezi: lifetime plan, confusing free tier

Rezi lists an AI Cover Letter Writer that writes "specifically tailored from your resume content, targeted for the job you want". Pro is $29 a month and the Lifetime plan is $149 one-time ("All features, one payment"). The free tier is unclear. On September 22, 2026 the page's feature table marked the AI Cover Letter Writer and Cover Letter Builder as not included on Free, while its FAQ said free users can "create unlimited cover and resignation letters". Suits: people who expect several searches and would rather pay once. Limitation: $29 a month is expensive for one search, and you should confirm the free tier in the app before counting on it.

Kickresume: free letters, paid AI

Kickresume's free plan allows unlimited cover letters and downloads on 4 cover letter templates, but its AI Resume & Cover Letter Writer is paid only: $24 a month, $54 a quarter ($18/mo) or $96 a year ($8/mo), with 40 templates. Suits: people who care about design and want a matching resume and letter. Limitation: the free plan is a template editor, not an AI cover letter writer.

Zety: read the renewal line first

Zety's cover letter builder promises "a matching cover letter in seconds" and comes with its resume builder. Free plans download in TXT only. The Pro Package is $1.95 for a 14-day trial that "auto-renews at $25.95 billed every 4 weeks"; the annual plan is $71.40 up front and also auto-renews. Suits: people who want a polished resume and letter pair and will set a reminder to cancel. Limitation: the $1.95 is a trial price. If you forget to cancel, the first cycle costs $27.90.

Resume.io: templates first, AI less clear

Resume.io's free plan covers "only one resume and cover letter" with TXT downloads. The $2.95 7-day trial auto-renews at $29.95 every 4 weeks; the quarterly plan is $49.95 every 3 months; both carry a 7-day money-back guarantee. Suits: people who want a ready-made template (Resume.io says recruiters approved its designs) and will write most of the letter themselves. Limitation: its cover letter builder page describes templates, a spell-checker and "pre-generated content". It does not describe a writer that reads the job posting, so do not buy it expecting one.

Jobscan: generator inside an ATS suite

Jobscan's AI cover letter generator takes your resume and a job description, writes a letter you can edit or regenerate, and saves it to the role in its job tracker. Its generator page says premium features come with a free trial. Price: check the vendor. Its plan page loads inside the app and we could not read it on September 22, 2026, so we are not quoting a number. Suits: people already paying for Jobscan's match reports. Limitation:the letter is an add-on to a keyword-matching product, and you cannot check the price before signing up.

ChatGPT or Claude: free, and you do the setup

A general AI assistant is a real option. ChatGPT and Claude both have free tiers, and their paid plans are $20 a month (ChatGPT Plus, per OpenAI; Claude Pro billed monthly, per Anthropic). Suits: confident writers who will paste in the posting and their resume and edit hard. Limitation: it knows only what you paste, it is not built around job applications (layout, tracking and tailoring each version are on you), and it will write whatever the prompt invites, including experience you do not have. OneTwoResume: ours, paid only, by subscription

Our AI cover letter generator takes a job posting (a URL or pasted text) and writes from a resume you have saved in OneTwoResume, in one of three tones: semi-formal, formal or a plainer "humane" voice. You can copy the letter or download it as a Word file. Cover letters are a paid feature on our Pro plans: $9.99 every 2 weeks or $15 a month, renewing until you cancel from the dashboard. There is no one-time option. Suits: a focused stretch of applications where you also want the resume tailored to each job. Limitation: there is no free cover letter generation, so Teal's 2 free credits and the chatbots' free tiers beat us on price if you need only one or two letters. Is there a free AI cover letter generator?

Only partly. Teal's free plan gives 2 AI cover letters. ChatGPT and Claude will draft as many as you like on their free tiers, but you supply everything and handle the formatting. Kickresume, Zety and Resume.io let you build a letter for free, but Kickresume's free plan has no AI writer and Zety and Resume.io only download in TXT. Which cover letter generator has no subscription?

Two options on this list cannot renew: Generate Cover Letter's $9 Week Pass and Rezi's $149 lifetime plan. Everything else — OneTwoResume included (ours: $9.99 every 2 weeks or $15 a month) — is a recurring plan, and two of the entry prices are trials that convert: Zety's $1.95 becomes $25.95 every 4 weeks and Resume.io's $2.95 becomes $29.95 every 4 weeks. Do AI cover letter writers make things up?

We measured this on our own product. In our fabrication test, we ran 5 fictional candidates through our production generator twice each and checked every claim in all 10 letters against the inputs. None of the 10 invented a number, credential or job title. Four of 10 invented a candidate activity, such as "I am actively exploring TypeScript resources" for someone who never said so. All 10 attributed qualities to the employer that the job posting never stated. We changed the prompt the same day, and that page documents the behavior before the fix. We have not tested any other vendor's generator under the same protocol, so this is not a claim that others do better or worse. Whatever you use, delete any "currently learning" sentence that isn't true, and check or cut every claim about the company.

Should you use a cover letter generator or write your own?

Use one for the draft, not for the final send. Generators are good at structure and at matching your experience to the posting.
